Centrifugation is a critical process in many scientific and medical laboratories. It involves spinning samples at high speeds to separate components based on density. One of the key metrics in this process is the Relative Centrifugal Force (RCF), often expressed in terms of gravitational force (g). Converting RPM (Revolutions Per Minute) to RCF can be crucial for ensuring accurate and reproducible results. Here, we present a simple yet effective RPM to RCF converter built using Bootstrap for styling and JavaScript for functionality, which includes an option to input the rotor radius in either centimeters (cm) or millimeters (mm).
RCF, also known as g-force, measures the force exerted on a sample in a centrifuge relative to the force of gravity. It is calculated using the following formula:
RCF = 1.118 × 10−5 × R × (RPM)2
Where:
For example, if the rotor radius is 12 cm and the RPM is 10,000, the RCF can be calculated as:
RCF = 1.118 × 10−5 × 12 × (10,000)2 = 13,416
This means the centrifugal force experienced by the sample is 13,416 times the force of gravity.
Manually converting RPM to RCF can be prone to errors and is time-consuming. A digital converter simplifies this task, ensuring accuracy and efficiency. Our RPM to RCF converter not only performs this conversion but also provides the centrifugal force in meters per second squared (m/s2), enhancing its utility for precise scientific work.
